Top pulmonologist, Dr Arvind Kumar, chairman of the Institute of chest surgery at Medanta Hospital,
has issued a serious warning to citizens.
He said“If you can afford it, leave Delhi for 6-8 weeks.”
According to him, the current air in the city is unsafe even for healthy individuals,
and the rising level of Delhi pollution has turned the capital into a health Hazard.
The Central pollution control board (CPCB) recorded Delhi AQI today between 450 and 480 in several areas
—a range that falls under the “severe” category.

but the thick haze continues to choke the city.
The city visibility has dropped drastically,
and residents are waking up with burning eyes, sore throat, and persistent coughs.
Dr Kumar compared the current Delhi air quality to smoking multiple cigarettes a day.
“Every breath you take in Delhi today equals smoking 25 to 30 cigarettes,
” he said, warning that the situation poses a serious Public health threat.
Hospitals across the city have reported a sharp rise in patients suffering from asthma, lung infection and breathing problems.
Even healthy young people are now showing symptoms of respiratory distress; moreover children and elderly citizens continue to remain the most vulnerable as Delhi pollution worsens and Delhi airport quality keeps declining.
Experts say the worsening Delhi pollution stems from a mix of stubble burning, vehicle emission, construction, dust, industrial smoke.
low wind speeds, and dropping temperatures are trapping these pollutants close to the ground, forming the dense haze that now blankets the city.
Meteorologists believe the conditions are unlikely to improve in the coming weeks.
The Delhi government has implemented several emergency measures such as halting construction, restricting heavy vehicles and encouraging work from home.
However, environmentalists believe these steps are the solution. They have called for stronger and coordinated action between Delhi and neighbourhood states to curb struggle, burning and industrial pollution-Two major contributions to the cities, poor air quality.
Doctors are advising citizens to wear N95 masks, use air purifiers at home, and avoid outdoor exercise until Delhi air quality improves.
Dr.Kumar urged people with respiratory problems to remain extra cautious and continue their medicine.”
If you can leave Delhi for a few weeks until the situation improves, please do” this is a public health emergency.” he said.
Every winter, the same crisis grips the capital.
