Police have named both actors in an FIR,claiming a cooperative society used their celebrity status to attract investors and collect crores with false promises of doubling returns.

The Loni urban multi state credit and thrift cooperative Society Limited, allegedly gathered money from more than 500 investors by promising to double the investment in a short time.

According to the complaint, the society stopped responding once it collected nearly ₹5 crore.

Investigators believe the company used the actors image and names in its promotional material to build public trust and appear credible

Police in Baghpat filed the FIR against about 22 to 24 individuals, including Alok Nath and Shreyas Talpade.

They suspect the actor’s endorsements gave  the society an air of legitimacy, convincing people to invest their savings.

However, the investigation has not confirmed any direct financial involvement by either actor.

Suresh Talpade’s team immediately denied the allegations. In a public statement, His representatives called the claim false, baseless and misleading.

They said the actor only took part in professional promotional activities and had no role in the company’s internal or financial dealings.

They urged the Media Public to verify facts before spreading misinformation.

Alok Nath’s representatives have not yet issued a detailed response.

However, people close to the actor insist that his association was purely promotional and that he had no knowledge of the company’s financial operation

. They claim his name appeared in the FIR only because he featured in an advertisement or public events connected to the cooperative.

Police continue to investigate the case. They clarified that naming someone in an FIR doesn’t prove guilt.

Officers are collecting documents, tracing transactions and verifying who actually controlled the Money trail,

As of now, no one has been arrested, and no court has framed charges.

Authorities expect to question more witnesses and review contracts between the company and the celebrities before proceeding further.

Financial experts say this case reflects a growing trend where cooperative societies and investment schemes use celebrity endorsements to win public confidence,

fraudsters often exploit star image to appear trustworthy, especially in smaller towns where local investors rely heavily on reputation rather than paperwork.

“When people see a famous face, they stop asking questions”.

explained a financial crime analyst. “An endorsement doesn’t mean the celebrity checked the company’s book.

Legal professionals argue that this case could reopen debates about celebrity responsibility in financial promotion.India’s consumer protection Act

already requires endorsers  to verify the claims they promote, but enforcement remains inconsistent.

Many lawyers believe that cases like this could lead to stricter checks

before stars agree to lend their images to any financial Product or organisation.

Several investors say they trusted the scheme only because of the actor association.

“We saw Alok Nath and Shreyas Talpade connected to it and thought it was safe,”

said one investor in a local report. “

Now no one is answering our calls. We have lost our savings.”

Industry insiders, however, defend the actors saying that endorsement deals

usually separate creative participation from financial decision- making.

“Celebrities are often hired for a single shoot or appearance,” said a film producer.

“They don’t get to see how the company operates. unless evidence shows direct involvement. It’s unfair to blame them entirely.”

As the investigation continues, both actors remain under public scrutiny. The case has sparked a discussion about the blurry line between fame and accountability in India’s celebrity culture. Whether the police find them innocent or guilty, the controversy has already delivered one clear message- Trust should never rely solely on a familiar face.
